According to the German newspaper *Handelsblatt*, several workers responded by threatening to call the police or slamming the door shut.
The report also highlighted a significant increase in sick leave, with 17% of Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory workers calling in sick in August—more than triple the average for the German auto industry.
Dirk Schulze, a regional leader at the German metalworkers’ union IG Metall, called these home visits “absurd” and noted that employees report extreme workloads, with pressure mounting on those sick as their colleagues take on additional responsibilities.
Elon Musk has promised to investigate the situation, acknowledging on social media, “This sounds crazy. Looking into it.”
Tesla previously faced scrutiny over working conditions, with Musk previously stating that ramping up production would require employees to be “living on the line,” even sharing stories of workers sleeping at factories after long shifts.
Tesla has yet to respond to the latest reports.
